AWS Elasticsearch Discover is missing histogram and time picker

Question

I have a fresh install of AWS Elasticsearch 7.9. Data is being streamed in via cloudwatch subscription -> lambda -> API. Where is the histogram graphic and time range selector? Am I missing a time field that would make this available?

I would expect to see something like this:
